Endorsing Jim Moeller – Good for Clark County

The Campaign wants to take a moment and thank all of Jim’s endorsers for 2008. It is an honor and a privilege to have Jim recognized by a diverse cross section of the folks here in Clark County.

If you or your organization would like to be part of Jim’s re-election bid – please email us. We’ll add your name to the growing list of support for our Democratic incumbent.

Donating to Jim’s re-election campaign is a donation to the greater Democratic cause for the State of Washington. We need to ensure that Democrats control the legislature and your contribution will help races across the Evergreen State. Thanks.

Friends:
These last four days have been just short of amazing. From the big shots to the little squirts, from the big cheese to the small fry I have seen and talked to all kinds of politicians, politicos and just plain folk. The people of Denver have been overwhelmingly gracious and friendly. Their city sparkles at night and the climate is superb. The light-rail runs smoothly, efficiently and there was not a single concern of crime while I was using it and I used it day and night. It feels like a young city, vibrant, impatient, full of energy and anxious to get to it.

There are many, many things I could write about. From the incredible production of the National Convention and that historical night in INVESTCO Field to the many moving moments and inspirational words that touched again and again the overwhelming message of the past four days. This is the same message I have heard for decades. First from pulpits and now from podiums. This campaign is about what we can do together. What we can change about our world when we all put our shoulder to the wheel. Progress on poverty, justice, fairness and peace. This campaign is not about what we can buy, but about we can build. Not about our fears but about our hopes.

It’s easy to be cynical. Maybe Obama’s message is just so many nice words – just so many good intentions. Then why do we listen? Why do we keep coming back and back again to that well of hope? Maybe I’m just not practical enough but I need to believe in the possibilities of tomorrow because today is just not good enough. There is still too much poverty, too much injustice and too much blood and tears.

I’m going home now. Back to Vancouver to help others build progress on the issues of our age.

It’s our job. It’s our time. Let’s get to it.

Day three was the best yet!

August 27, 2008

Technically it was the most challenging. I again lost the lottery for credentials. There was also so much going on all over is was difficult to see even a fraction of the events. I eventually got credentials courtesy of my friend Jim Kainber and Governor Christine. In the hall, the stories of of veterans and the examples of personal courage and sacrifice were so moving that many times during the day I was brought to tears. This awful war must end. In fact, we should never commit our troops to another war of choice again.

Also, I’ve met so many people from all over the United States; party leaders, housewives, single moms, doctors, lawyers, from Sen. John Kerry to Gov. Schweitzer of Montana even the speech by VP nominee Sen. Joe Biden was terrific. But for me, THE event of the day was President Bill Clinton. I remember so clearly the hope and the competency that the Clinton administration brought to us. Eight years of peace and prosperity. And most importantly as in the words of Bill Clinton; “we need to lead the world again by the power of our example, rather than the example of our power”.

Tomorrow is the big day – Obama’s acceptance speech. History begins tomorrow.

Best,

Democratic Convention Day 2

August 26, 2008

Dear Friends:

Democratic Convention floor filled to the max!

Democratic Convention floor filled to the max!

Day 2 started out a little disappointing. Since I’m not a delegate and I don’t have credentials for every day of the convention (you need new credentials everyday to get into the hall), I have to participate in a daily lottery for extra credentials given to each state delegation in the morning. I lost. So, my mission today is to ask my supporters (labor, GLBT, other elected officials, etc.) to score a hall credential to hear Hillary later tonight. I was her delegate at the county and state level and still think she (and Bill) has a lot to offer this presidential campaign.

After the convention adjourns for the night about 10pm, the Washington Delegation is having it’s big reception at a local hotel so maybe I will spend the day catching up with emails and do some fundraising of my own. BTW, lots of groups have free receptions open to all delegates and guests but there are clearly some organizations that are using this convention opportunity to raise funds. With all the money delegates are spending just to get here it doesn’t seem like a good strategy.

Hillary Clinton as viewed from the nose bleed seats...

Hillary Clinton as viewed from the nose bleed seats...

1:30pm: Well, I got a hall credential from my friend Ed Cote, DNC National Committeeman! The one and only star tonight was Hillary Rodham Clinton and she was incredible! Her daughter Chelsea introduced her and she spoke about the promise of America that you can be “anything you dream to be”. The place went wild and even though I was in the nose-bleed section, I felt she was talking to me personally.

Tomorrow is VP candidate Sen. Joe Biden and former President Clinton. More stars! BTW, President Clinton was identified as “Hillary’s husband” in the introductory video. :^)
